Sheryl Thomas, General Manager and Founder Original founder & General Manager of Marquee has many years of experience in musical theatre both on-stage and behind the scenes. Stemming from an artistic family, Sheryl lives her passion every day through her work and program development at Marquee with the adult and youth productions/programs as well as teaching musical theatre in York Region schools through parent council invitations. Ms. Thomas produced the the York Region Celebration of the Arts Talent Search from 2004-2014 and She continues to bring Marquee to the level of quality it has grown to be so well known for in the community.
Cameron Leverdingen, Administrator/Classroom Assistant Cameron is Marquee's office administrative assistant who takes care of registrations, tuition payments, and more. She also assists in the KinderStages classrooms as an assistant and she also assists on costuming for all of Marquee's youth programming. Chances are you'll hear her cheery voice when you call our office or see her equally cheery smile when you walk in to the Marquee office.
Shira Forsythe, Director (Elite and Teen Programs) Shira studied with Brian Foley for 15 years and studied at the Tisch School for the Arts in NYC. Shira began her career in professional theatre at age eight. Shira has performed in professional productions both in Toronto & New York from 8 to 24. Some of Shira's credits include Annie, A Chorus Line, Cats, Grease, The Wiz, Ragtime, Show Boat, West Side Story, When Coloured Girls Consider Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf. Shira has performed in community theatre since 2007 with some credits as Oliver, Hairspray, Fame, The Sound of Music, Doubt, The Little Mermaid. Shira began directing and choreographing in 2010 with some credits as West Side Story, 42nd Street, Joseph, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, Fame, Footloose, Guys & Dolls, Hairspray, Legally Blonde. Shira writes scripts for youth and teaches elementary theatre students after school. Shira is a mother of 5 and is thrilled to be spending her 5th consecutive year as an instructor at Marquee.
Tara Nicholson, Dance Instructor/Intermediate Youth Group Choreographer Since becoming an Aurora Aerial as a young teen with JAYMOR SCHOOL OF DANCING's competitive team, Tara has taught all disciplines to both recreational and competitive levels for the past 26 years. She is a full member of PAEC, through which she has prepared many children for their dance exams. Tara is also a certified level 1 gymnastics coach. This experience has led Tara to compete and perform professionally across North America. Tara has also worked in Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, Mexico as a professional dancer. Her love of dance has opened many doors in her career and she continues this passion by sharing the fun and technique with anyone who wants to learn.
Caitlin Belchior, Vocal Instructor-Intermediate Youth Group Caitlin Belchior began her musical training with the Upper Canada Chorus (UCC). She has sung in the choir alongside performers including The Tenors at the Air Canada Centre and Jodie Benson, known for her role as Ariel in the Little Mermaid on Broadway and in the movie. She is a graduate from an arts high school majoring in music. This program allowed her to focus on all aspects of music including theory and gaining a deeper understanding of the way the human voice works. Caitlin Belchior has studied all genres of music and is well rounded with regards to teaching. She has taught children of all ages and has assumed the important role as Head Chorister with UCC and has conducted on stage. She is thrilled to be part of the Marquee team this year.
Danielle Rito, Co-Director/Stage Manager- All Youth Groups Dani started her journey in theatre at Marquee at the age of 14 right up until college. She graduated from St. Lawrence College's Musical Theatre Performance program with an Advanced Diploma where she had the opportunity to perform in shows such as RENT, Les Belles Souers, 9 to 5 and Legally Blonde. She also attended Sheridan College where she received a certificate in Performing Arts Preparation and directed a production of Mean Girls. She enjoys all aspects of theatre, from performing on stage to directing, writing and stage managing. Now she has come full circle bringing all she has learned to share with others at Marquee and is very excited for all the adventures ahead.
Cara Chisolm, Vocal Coach, Professional Performer Cara brings to the stage more than 30 years in the entertainment business. Versatility has been the key to her success. With a background in Musical Theatre, Cara has performed in the Canadian major musicals, The Phantom of the Opera (Princess/Christine) and the original Canadian cast of Les Miserables, playing both Cosette and Eponine at different times.(Cosette/Eponine). She also played Ariel, The Little Mermaid, in London, England. Now married with two children, Cara now performs a one woman show all over Canada. Cara will strive to bring out the best in each student through teaching skills in voice technique, confidence building, body language and a lot of positive reinforcement!! She looks forward to sharing her expertise and passion for singing with the wonderful Marquee students. Cara is now offering classes right at Marquee on Mondays from 4-9pm.
